AN ARCHITECTURAL FOOPAH AND A MOST AWESOME SQUARE
Blue sky, some clouds, and sunshine were in
order this morning! Pisa was the goal for today. We took a direct, fast, no
reservation train to Pisa and walked a mile to see the Leaning Tower. I used to think the Leaning Tower of Pisa was intentionally built to
lean-NOT. It turns out the ground under it is soft and wet and as they built
it, the south end settled down more than the north. It is really quite amazing
that it has never fallen down. Fifteen euros each dissuaded us from climbing to
the top (especially considering you get a grand total of 30 minutes to get up,
see the view, and get down for those 15 Euros).
After so many pictures what else is there to do
in Pisa? Walk back another way to the train station, and...
...take a train to Siena. What a delightful city. We had no idea it was going to be so beautiful. Il Campo, the town square, is on of the best there is. It is built in a semi circle and ramped. People sit on it like they do on a beach.
