CASTLES, CASTLES, AND MORE CASTLES AND A MASSIVE
CATHEDRAL
The weather today is not great. The original
plan was to take the K-D riverboat down to Bacharach tomorrow, but we decided
to do it today, because the forecast looked better for today. This part of the
Rhine River is called the middle Rhine and has quite of few castles up on the
hills. Most of the medieval castles were destroyed by the French, but the
German people rebuilt many of them in the 1800’s. Today some stand unattended,
some are museums, and others are hotels. The sunshine and blue clouds came and
went, as did some short little downpours.
Many Germans set up a semi permanent camp
going to a Rennaiscance fair
waiting for the train back to Cologne
We got off in Bacharach and took the train back to
Koblenz and then onto Cologne to see the cathedral, which stands right outside
the train station. It is MASSIVE to say the least—probably the biggest I’ve
ever seen. The inside is beautiful as well. The good news is, the sun came out
along with some nice blue sky.
