TUESDAY, 6 MAY 2014 AN ANCIENT CITY

Our guide, Sam, told us he would pick us up at 0500 so we could watch the sun rise over Angkor Wat. I woke up at 0400 and saw stars in the sky, so I was hopeful the sun would indeed be out for us. However, by the time we got to the ruins it was completely clouded over.

As Sam took us through the complex it started to rain.

We had to walk about half a mile to meet up with the van, and it began pouring rain. We got soaked despite the fact we had umbrellas. Sam took us back to the hotel so we could eat breakfast and told us they would pick us up again at 1100. The good news is it stopped raining, by the time we headed back out to see Angkor Tom.

Buddhist priest (as evidenced by the fact he has hair-monks shave their heads)

Tomb raider area, where trees have grown into the walls and buildings.

At the end of the day we were all exhausted from the heat and happy to return to our rooms for showers and rest..
